Bridging the Power Gap
Retrofitting and Future-Proofing Data Centers for the AI Era for Mixed-Density workloads.
View the App NoteGPU Demand
GPU demand is outpacing greenfield data center construction, which can take years to complete.
Brownfield Sites
Many existing facilities operate below 50% capacity with robust physical infrastructure already in place.
Modular In-Rack
Solve two distinct challenges with one scalable platform: retrofit legacy sites and future-proof new builds.
Scenario 1: The Retrofit
Scenario 2 ↓Immediate AI Deployment in Existing Facilities
- Scenario: 10–15 year old facilities designed for standard CPU servers.
- The Upgrade: Install 51Vdc output HPR power shelves in the upper portion of the rack to support new high-density GPU platforms.
- Legacy Support: Keep existing CPU servers running in the bottom of the rack.
- The Bridge: The Pii PF-2662-P2xN inverter shelf pulls from the new 51Vdc GPU bus to provide 240Vac single-phase power.
- Result: A single hybrid rack powering both 51Vdc AI workloads and legacy 240Vac CPU servers.
Scenario 2: Future-Proofing
Initial CPU Installation with Scalable Infrastructure
- Objective: Install more readily available CPU servers today using a scalable 3-phase infrastructure.
- Configuration: Bring 3-phase power (480Y/277V or 415Y/240V) directly to the rack.
- Current Load: Power standard CPU servers from a single phase of the 3-phase feed (277Vac or 240Vac).
- Distribution: Standard rack PDUs distribute AC power to the server power supplies.
- State: The rack is highly efficient for current compute needs but physically prepared for an AI expansion.
The 51Vdc GPU Expansion
- Objective: Transition to GPUs without a rip-and-replace of the power infrastructure.
- The Expansion: Redirect the existing 3-phase AC feed into new High Power Rectifier (HPR) shelves.
- Native DC: The HPR shelves generate the 51Vdc bus required for new GPU servers.
- PDU Reuse: Previously installed rack PDUs are unplugged from the upstream busway and plugged into the Pii Inverter Shelf.
- The Bridge: The inverter converts 51Vdc back to 240Vac single-phase for original CPU servers, allowing them to remain operational.
