The Future of EV Roadside Rescue
Today, Real Power’s customers aren’t rounding a professional speedway: they’re rescuing stranded passenger EVs on the roadside and in driveways, and the demand for EV roadside rescue and mobile support has never been higher.
The EV500 Legacy
In 2011, Real Power hosted an event called EV500 with a simple goal: use mobile generator systems to supplement DC power, running a vehicle 500 miles in a single day around the venerated Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The goal of the event was to demonstrate something ambitious at the time: EVs, supplemented with level 3 DC fast charging, can travel the distances associated with marquis racing events like the Indy 500. EV500 was just the start of Real Power’s commitment to industry-leading support of mobile, versatile fast charging.

Mobile, Robust DC Fast Charging: Who Can Make it?
Nobody intends to drain their EV battery to zero, but even a simple long weekend or vacation away from an EV can easily lead to a drained battery, a dead car, and headaches for EV owners. As they sought to help these stranded drivers, Real Power began facing derating issues: many mobile chargers, even when getting above room temperature conditions, would lower their power output and face other cooling issues.
What Real Power has been looking for, going back to EV500, is a partner who has designed a Level 3 mobile charger with cooling designed as a core engineering concern. But their true white whale? An EVSE who provides a mobile charger with vertically integrated power electronics to enable different power sources in the field, while offering full power - without derating - at a wide operating temperature.
