At Power Innovations, we have been delivering custom Power Engineering and Integration Solutions for commercial and military customers for more than two decades. In many cases, our custom power integration services require custom assemblies and structures. So, we have an entire design and fabrication lab, including large scale 3D printers.

Based on our decades of experience powering mission-critical applications, our customers often request us to build custom power support systems for their flight simulator trainers, especially in mission-critical locations for our military. These simulators need to withstand harsh environmental conditions, while operating flawlessly with low to no signature.

When our client asked if we could build a maintenance training airplane, of course we said yes! For airplane maintenance crew, there’s nothing that can replace learning on an actual airplane. So, we bought a P8 airplane, broke it apart, and then rebuilt it specifically to work as a training plane.

Sounds easy enough. But, it is a complicated process to put it back together as a working plane. That’s where Power Innovations excels. With our deep expertise in Power Management and Integration, we worked with aviation experts to create this customized trainer.

One unique challenge was to minimize the need for original, expensive parts in non-critical areas. Visually the plane needed to look identical, but in some cases, the parts did not need to be functional. Using our industrial grade 3D printers, we were able to make replicas of non-high fidelity parts. This approach ensured that the original high fidelity parts were used in the areas needed for training; but, when possible, we swapped in the lower fidelity parts for significant cost savings.

Power Innovations was able to deliver the plane on-time and ship safely to the overseas destination via a massive Antonov transport plane. Check out the photos in the carousel below!
